View from Atalaya de FemésLanzarote is the most extraordinary and unusual island of the Canaries - it appears to many people very strange and bizarre, in many places comparable with a lunar landscape. No green areas, no trees, no grassland, but for kilometers black and reddish brown lava, fields with countless, sharp lava rocks.
The last volcanic eruptions have been in the years 1730 to 1736. The National Park Timanfaya - the 'Fire Mountains' Lanzarote - is the largest connected lava field on the island with about 200 square kilometers and an impressive destination that you should have seen while visiting Lanzarote during your holidays.
In the north of the island the Famara massif rises up to 671 meters, and in the south, the Los Ajaches to 609 meters (Atalaya de Femés 609 meters). The rest of the island is characterized by a hilly landscape that is interrupted by distinctive outstanding volcanic cones. Lanzarote is known for its unique wines that are grown mainly in the central wine-growing region of "La Geria" in large fields of black lava ash. And for friends of sun, beach and sea, Lanzarote provides all-the-year pleasant temperatures, gorgeous bright sandy beaches, black lava sand beaches, secluded coves and unique cliffs with crystal clear Atlantic waters.
